Motorway 8 is a visual journey through the history of Scotland’s busiest motorway, the M8, which slices through the heart of Glasgow. The building of which changed the dynamic of the city. The imagery is derived from documentary photos and videos made during and after the completion of the motorway. Through collage and drawing the images are tied together in unexpected ways, revealing the continuous presence that the M8 has for the people who live around it. The M8 has been a recurring subject in Felix’s work since moving to Glasgow. He stated that “the M8 is an artefact of the beliefs and virility of man in the 20th Century, and it sticks out like a sore thumb in the 21st.”

The book was produced as part of the Close of Play: Climate Emergency and Creative Action workshop ran between artist Vita Lerche and The Glasgow School of Art. The result of which became part of an exhibition at The Reid Gallery. Subsequently all the books made will be planted in a location in Glasgow for people to find, or chance upon.

The book was also featured in a limited edition publication on graphic novels, titled Power of Narrative (2022) by Sophie Ammann.
